Lima, February 23, 2009
Ivan Canturin of Inkafest (PE) (www.Inkafest.com) in conjunction with Peter Chrzanowski of Extreme Explorations, (CDN) and Matjas Feraric (SL) are pleased to announce two major paragliding events along with Inkafest Film Celebrations taking place in Huaraz, Peru during the dates of August 18-23rd, 2010 .
1. ACCURACY FAI WORLD CUP EVENT
It is our aim to offer the attending public as well the media two flagship paragliding events of great entertainment value. The first will be an Accuracy FAI sanctioned Competition, or a target landing display where competitors are judged in landing as close to the centre of a landing zone which has been previously mapped out on the chosen landing field. The competition holds incredible merit as a spectator event as it is very exciting and colorful to watch attracting the public while at the same time providing valuable FAI World Cup points needed by many competitors. Therefore we expect a good turnout for this event. There will be substantial prize money as well as gear available for the top winners of this special event, a South American premiere.
2. XANDES is our second event styled after the prestigious Red Bull XALPS event (see
http://www.redbullxalps.com/index.aspx ) held in Europe every year. This event consists of mountaineering / paragliding athletes comprised of two person per country teams. The athletes will depart Huaraz on August 24th, 2009 and climb and paraglide a previously chartered course of 500+ Kilometres from Huaraz to Cuzco. There will be predetermined GPS turn points along the high Andean and Peruvian Altiplano route in order to keep the athletes on a safe course near populated areas to ensure their safety en route. The athletes will arrive in Cuzco during he predetermined window of the Inkafest Festival scheduled in that town during this time , utilizing a ten race day window in total. This is an exceptionally unique event , a first in South America and we expect a great deal of participation. Furthermore the event will be creating awareness to a very important cause, being Global Warming and especially the Receding Equatorial Glaciers so evident in Peru and it`s .incredibly beautiful Cordilleras. The first XANDES will be an exploratory reconnaissance mission with athletes invited to participate in a map planning route , actually doing the course, flying , trekking, climbing and plotting on GPS the route, along much of the famous Inca trail which stretches from Cajamarca to Bolivia along the spine of the Andes and Peruvian Altiplano, concentrating on the Huaraz / Cuzco portion for the actual race planned for 2010 INKAFEST celebrations.
